For those of you who want to have beautiful, well-defined curls all day long, raise your hand. Disciplining frizz is doable, but keep in mind that healthy hair is less likely to frizz.
Frothy, frizzy hair can detract from the aesthetics of your curly hair. Curly hair is more prone to frizz because it tends to dry out more quickly.
‘Seeking to have healthy hair remains the priority.’
Let’s not forget that a frothy or frizzy look is part of the nature of curly hair even though we often think of it as less adorable to look at. Learning to enjoy the uniqueness of your hair is a strength that will sustain you through the good and bad hair days.
We will share with you, the common origins of frizz, the good demonstrations to adopt and the actions to avoid.
You will find a selection of anti-frizz treatments at the bottom of this article.
Are you ready to tame the frizzes, Curlies ?

Shea Moisture’ CURL AND SHINE SHAMPOO |
|
Frizz is mainly the result of a hair fiber curling in a direction opposite to that of other fibers near it. As it separates from the other hair, it becomes messy or tangled, giving your hair a frizzy or mossy appearance.
There are two major causes of frizz:
1. Dry or damaged hair
2. Humidity

Frizz occurs mainly due to:
Lack of hydration
When your hair is dehydrated, that is to say that it does not retain moisture well, it becomes rougher and unruly. This lack of moisture will cause frizz, as in the case of damaged hair, see point 2.
The reason for this dehydration can be varied in relation to your hair type, its porosity (link to porosity category) and the history of treatments applied to your hair.
From a damaged hair
All types of damage are definitely a cause of frizz. Yes, curly hair, hair damaged by high heat appliances or regular aggressive treatments, chemical coloring or the harmfulness of certain components in your products can become a source of frizz.
That’s because the outer layer of cuticles on your hair becomes rougher, which prevents strands from slipping out of place to create beautiful curls that are neatly arranged in relation to each other. And that each curl finds its place in the whole of your hair.
The curls are disordered, and those that are directed in a different direction from the others from the famous frizz.
The surrounding humidity
The naturally occurring water in the air is a major contributor to frizz.
Our curly hair retains its natural appearance in ‘memory’ before styling, as soon as humid conditions arise, the water in the air has an effect on each hair.
Scientifically, this low volume of water redirects the temporary ‘hydrogen bonds’ in your hair that initially held your style together.

A correct knowledge of your hair is essential. The first thing to look for is good health of your hair, i.e. that it is approaching the stage of ‘normal porosity’ (link to article on normal porosity blog). Healthy curly hair is naturally less likely to have frizz.
Your hair type and stage of porosity are factors that will facilitate the composition of your treatments.
For example, hair with high porosity is often drier and more damaged, so frizz appears more easily.

Adopt correct daily gestures, a good routine according to the nature of the hair, i.e. according to its type (straight, curly, frizzy, etc.) and its porosity.
Here’s an example of an anti-frizz routine (weekly):
1. Oil bath (with oils such as castor, coconut, aloe vera or a mixture)
Massage and nourish your scalp, healthy hair starts with a healthy scalp.
2. A gentle shampoo adapted to your hair type.
Remove the excess, but keep all the benefits of your oil bath.
3. Conditioner
An extra dose of moisture and untangling
4. Moisturizing or repairing mask
As an option, if you do the oil bath and conditioner.
5. Styling products.
Use one of the 5 methods* below:
* Styling methods:
Once a month, perform a clarifying shampoo to purify your hair from root to tip, so that future treatments can be more effective.

|
1. | Dilute your shampoo with a little and gently massage it into your scalp in circular motions.
2. | Rinse your hair with cold water to tighten the scales.
3. | Untangle hair while it is still wet. Do not dry style to avoid frizz.
4. | ‘Scrunch’ or scrunch by lightly pressing your curls.

Without rubbing your wet hair soaked with your care with your microfiber towel or a cotton T-shirt. To prevent static electricity, which causes frizz. Or let yourself be tempted by a must-have bathing caps that gently coils and dries your hair without friction. |
|
5. |
Air dry or use a warm air diffuser and finish with a cold breeze to distribute the heat better, please.
|
|
6. | Apply styling products sparingly to avoid weighing down and losing volume.
7. | Choose the right accessories

For example, a wooden comb or brush that will not create tension on your hair, a silk or satin nightcap that will prevent friction of your hair during the night. Always with the aim of countering static electricity, the best friend of frizz. |
